VICTOR K. de FONTENAY & ASSOC. & ZEOLITE
VICTOR K. DE FONTENAY & ASSOC. has been involved in the use of Zeolite, a natural mineral as a replacement for Filter Sand since studying reaction to the product in both Europe & the USA over the last five to six years.
The reports & discussions coming from these countries have indicated a number of benefits from the use of Zeolite in place of Filter Sand.
The Zeolite is dramatically different in its make up & use compared to Filter Sand as shown below
| FILTER SAND
Angular in Structure
Non Porous
Small in surface area
Totally Inert
Non Reactive to pool water
|
ZEOLITE
Semi-round in Structure
Very Porous
Very large Surface area
Ion Charged
Reacts to remove Ammonia
Provides Finer Filtration |
Because it is totally opposite to Filter Sand in most respects, it does require a study of the product & its capabilities to understand how it can be much more beneficial to Swimming Pool Water Treatment than standard Filter Sand.
The major factor which has held it back from extensive development in to the Commercial Swimming Pool Market was the price of importation.
Now that Zeolite is being mined & processed here in Australia, it is possible to provide the product at a price which although possibly 50% higher than Filter Sand, makes it extremely viable for the pool operator.
Zeolite provides a number of favourable operating factors for the Pool Operator including:
- Removal of Ammonia from the Pool Water
- Assistance in the Reduction of Combined Chlorine
- Reduction in Chlorine Usage
- Reduction in Additional Chemicals.
- Greater Dirt Holding Capacity
- Reduction in overall backwash water.
- Reduction in reHeating Costs.
Zeolite does require a yearly soaking with a Brine solution to regenerate the product by removal of the absorbed ammonia.
This cost is minimal in relation to the savings throughout the year.
Zeolite is available in different gradings from some manufacturers & Victor K. de Fontenay & Assoc. has found that gradings from Zeolite Australia Pty Ltd have worked best for us.
Victor K. de Fontenay & Assoc. have completed a number of zolite installations where volumes of 3-20 tonnes have been used & have found the benifits to our clients have been very worh while.
ZEOLITE is available from Victor K. de Fontenay & Assoc., delivered to any where in Australia or the South Pacific & through other agents in some areas.
