NICK FINISHES A BRILLIANT SECOND IN RIO DE JANERIO "REDBULL DOWNHILL" - Sunday 19th Aug 2001 Nick Duffield finished second overall at the end of the days racing, down the fearsome roads of Rio de JanerioNick has said "The demands of the course were so great that all riders were exhausted at the end of each heat." Nick's commitment to fitness training prior to this race enabled him to hold on to the finish. This second place finish against the 16 best riders in the world puts Nick in a great position for the 2002 rounds of the Street Luge world championship. NICK QUALIFIES FOURTH IN RIO DE JANERIO "REDBULL DOWNHILL" Saturday 18th Aug Rio Time. Nick Duffield has qualified fourth for tomorrows Redbull Downhill Luge race in Rio De Janerio. Nick is only 2/10 sec behind World Champion Dave Rodgers of the USA, & the dry, hot, 32C weather of Rio will suit Nick after being rained out in Philadelphia last weekend.
Nick says the track is the greatest he has ever ridden with four wheel drifting on everyone of the 22 corners with an average speed of approx 75Kph or 45Mph.
Race results as soon as they come to hand.
Friday 17th Aug - Nick has check out the track in Rio de Janerio Brazil for the Redbull Rio Down hill & this is what he says.
"I went and looked at the track yesterday and I could not believe it. It
starts from the top of the Christo car park and it has 22, 180 hairpin
turns all the way down (only 1 mile long). This is going to be anyone's
race, I think even the slowest rider could have a chance at winning this
one. The Christo is 1km above sea level and it has the most amazing view
at night."
NICK QUALIFIES FIRST IN PHILADELPHIA EXTREME GAMES 2001
Nick Qualified No1 for the 2001 Extreme Games on Saturday 11th August.
NICK FINISHES 13th IN 2001 EXTREME GAMES".
After setting a blistering pace in yesterdays qualifying, Nick was hit with a rain storm during his first heat of racing today 12th Aug. Unlike many of the riders, Nick did not have wet weather tyers for his Luge & said he was unable to keep up in the rain. (PHOTOS)
